Been watching puppies!

Spitfire and a few pups
Spitfire and a few pups

Most people who have followed me for a long time know that the wolf formerly known as the Lamar small black female, now officially known as 926F, but affectionately known as Spitfire, took the place of 820 in my heart and is my passion.  I could not be more proud of the way this wolf has dedicated herself to keeping the Lamar Canyon pack going.

When I see Spitfire playing with her pups, or licking them (even though they don’t seem to care to be licked) I am just in awe of what an amazing wolf she has become.  I knew that she was strong but really had no clue just how much.

And, so, instead of doing my real work of photography and finding new stories to write I have spent the past few days hoping to spend time with the Lamar Canyons.  Actually, I have spent nearly three months waiting, hoping, looking, worrying…on and on, waiting for my turn.  My luck has not been great and so I have had to be patient.

We were worried after the Disasters went into the rendezvous site and we did not see the family for several days but after seeing all 6 pups alive and well last night I concluded that they kicked butt on those two disaster wolves!  LOL

The worry is part of the reason I have essentially put down the camera and spent many long hours waiting for and watching these wolves.  The other part was just the chance to see pups play with each other and their mom.  This is a special gift that I have been given – to see wild wolves, and I want to see all there is to see.

My apologies for not having better photos and stories but they are coming!

Although, I fell and hurt myself tonight.  Luckily some friends brought me frozen peas and ibuprofen.  It was really nice to get a little help like that.  And the two cars that were coming my way both stopped and the gentlemen came to my aid.  I needed help up.  Sure does suck!  But, I am okay – just sore.

  1. I hope you are OK Deby and that you used those disgusting peas as an ice pack. My sister has a big sack of mixed vegetables that has been frozen and defrosted more times than I can count. She keeps worrying she will accidentally eat them! I absolutely love your photo! There is nothing cuter than wolf puppies! Thank you for being patient enough to get that shot. Now you need to get a print of it and hang it next to your bed so it is the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing at night.
