A Grizzly and a Wolf Cross Paths

This photo was taken May 15th of this year. I kind of forgot about it because they were way out in Hayden Valley. But I found it a little while ago and though it was interesting. (Not the best quality because they are so distant.) When we first saw them they were over 1000 yards away from each other. The grizzly was busy digging for voles and didn’t have a clue the wolf was there. The wolf (I think it is the alpha male of the Canyon pack) knew exactly where the grizzly was. The wolf stopped and starred at the grizzly for a minute or two and then decided to continue on his path that would take him close to the grizzly. When the wolf got close to the grizzly he never even looked at it. He just kept walking and never changed directions or his pace. The grizzly looked up and watched the wolf but never moved. After the wolf went over a hill the grizzly continued digging for voles.

  1. Great shot and encounter but that is not the Canyon male. In fact, I have no idea what wolf that is but it is not a Canyon. I have never seen the alpha male of the Mollie pack but do believe he is collared and grey.
