Day 6
(If you didn’t see yesterday’s post this is a continuation of a story about the Yellowstone Picnic Area foxes. Read the previous 5 posts to catch up.)

By Day 6 of our time spent with the fox family we had pretty much learned their habits. Dad was out hunting most of the time and Mom was usually at home with the kids. As you can see from the above photo Dad was a really handsome fox. He must have been a very good provider because every time we looked the kids were playing tug-of-war with a different ground squirrel. We had fallen in love with the whole family, especially the babies. They were so sweet and playful I couldn’t help but smile every time I saw them.

Even though Dad spent a lot of time hunting he also hung around the den occasionally. The babies were thrilled when he did and always showed him a lot of affection. He didn’t play with them much, if at all, but then neither did Mom. That was OK because they had each other.

Dad spent time resting as well, but he usually did that away from the den.
