(If you didn’t see yesterday’s post this is a continuation of a story about the Yellowstone Picnic Area foxes. Read the previous 2 posts to catch up.)

The Yellowstone Picnic Area foxes – Day 3. Meet the rest of the family. This is Mrs. Fox at her families’ den with the kits. Mrs. Fox is an extremely patient and attentive mom. But then she only had two babies so she didn’t have to work too hard. She never got irritated with her babies no matter how much they jumped on her, chewed on her tail, or playfully bit at her face. She didn’t get involved in the babies games much but she was always willing to let them nurse, made sure she knew where they were and was always on the lookout for danger. She did go out to hunt occasionally but only when Mr. Fox was willing to stay home with the kids, which wasn’t very often.

She did occasionally play with the kits as you can see below. I’m glad I wasn’t that ground squirrel. The kits played with the plentiful ground squirrels provided mostly by Dad but I don’t believe I ever saw them eat anything other than milk.
