Raspberry and Snow

Without question the stars of Yellowstone this Fall are the grizzly bears known as Raspberry and Snow, hanging out towards the east entrance.

Raspberry is an 8 year old sow, a favorite of photographers because she is often near the road and is quite beautiful, and this is her first cub.  Actually, Raspberry showed up with two cubs, that were eventually named Rocky and Snow.  Snow for the color and Rocky because he was a boxer.  Unfortunately, Rocky left us and we do not know why.

For the past three years photographers had been expecting Raspberry to come out with cubs but if she had any in previous years, they were lost before anyone saw her in the spring.

The two bears have been alongside the road, from as far west as Steamboat Point to as far east as Sylvan Lake, for the past weeks, with only brief disappearances.  Their constant presence has kept photographers busy day in and day out.  Snow is just so darned cute everyone wants photos of him/her.  This is one big cub and so some are guessing it is a him.

Unfortunately, with all of the attention, these two bears have become very comfortable around people and the road, so many of us are worried for their safety.

Only 4 more days left before the gates close to the southern portion of the park and these two bears are left alone until they go into their den for the winter.
