Peter’s Report from Hayden

Yellowstone Day 20 – PM Wrap-up (Sept 22, 2015) At saddle north of grizzly overlook/point in Hayden valley to spot the wapiti lake pack. This morning fog in valley and rendezvous areas, began to thin and lift just after 8:00am. BIG HUGE THANK YOU!! To Sandy H and Jerry L for all their help today, this month and past years!!! Morning: – 8:05am Fog thinning, caught sight of 4 pups greeting and playing on hill to flats to right of three stooges. In and out of view as fogs blows through. – 8:36am black wolf (pup) in three stooges sand pit. – 8:47am big gray in flats below bison wallows mousing. 8:57am she moved ran off to right and emerged to dead tree right of Christmas tree sand pit. 9:30am 4 pups in Christmas tree and left running and playing. 9:40am gray wolf spotted on flats at same time 755M spotted cross road at alum creek heading east into rendezvous area, arrived and was greeted by all pups and alpha. He and she both have swollen bellies to feed the pups. 10:07am all together below right of Christmas tree, alpha female feeding pups. 10:15am alpha female and pups moved up into trees of three stooges sandpit. 10:10am things quoted down. 10:50am alpha male spotted in Three stooges heading left towards Christmas tree sand pit. Alpha female came into Christmas tree from the right bank of trees. 11:00am alpha male 755M moved in front of Christmas tree sandpit and dropped down into meadow. 11:15am passed west behind near bank of trees heading toward meadows on west side. 11:30am 755M crossed road heading west to far trees. Likely for another load of meat. Afternoon: – 1:00pm female alpha also crossed road in alum creek heading west as 755M did earlier – 4:45pm 755M came out of west tree lime in alum creek meadows. Attempted to cross road back to rendezvous area. People and traffic blocked his path. With a bit of an annoyed look on his face he moved further south and crossed near the saddle area. 5:30pm We split efforts this evening. Some on saddle watching rendezvous. Some on next northward pullout watching western tree line. – little to no sightings from saddle or west meadows after 755M crossed road. I think we have well fed, sleepy wolves! Also reported – fun views of Junction’s from Dunraven! Good sighting everyone, Pete
Lizzie sent me a text this morning to tell me that the Junction Buttes have grown from 6 to 19!  12 puppies and 870’s daughter, 968, came back.  What an amazing secret they have kept.
