Mom and Dad are back!

Lamars return from excursion
Downward Dog – Lamars return from excursion

I must have driven into the park in a daze this morning because when Rick pulled up beside me and told me that all 8 were down the road, it did not register.  And so he repeated himself – “ALL 8.”  He knew I would be very glad to see mom and dad back for the pups.  I will like them again when they feed the poor hungry lost souls.  Yeah, yeah, I am a little protective over the LC’s, can’t seem to help myself.  Feel like I have been sitting there in Lamar Valley since the beginning, which for this pack, I have.  This configuration of the pack.  Have seen some amazing things from them and some not so great – like when they kill coyotes.  I am constantly in awe of their will to survive and do what is necessary – the honesty and integrity of their lives.  Wolves inspire me to do what is right.

It is crazy how many people will follow you around once they know you have found an ermine or otters!  I don’t do well with being followed – it feels like harassment.  And, I don’t believe in following people – I believe in doing my own work.  Yeah, some times I get lucky and a friends shares something special but that is totally up to them

Anyway, I put on the snowshoes and hiked out to find the ermine again but no where to be found.  Stood there, walked around, waited, but no go today.  At least I put in the time and effort – some days you win and some days you don’t.

Didn’t see the otters today.

But, then, this was the first day that I left early in a long time.  Had some things to attend to and some work to get done.

The Junctions were seen only briefly.  I did see 870 for a minute – she looked to be moving slow again, making me wonder if her head injury kind of comes and goes.  She needs more food.  And, a few Prospects were seen, back on Blacktail but not for long.

On the way out of the park I had a nice surprise.

Got to photograph my first Kingfisher.  What a blast that was.  Not bad for kind of far and a tiny bird.

Until tomorrow.

  1. Love your work! Deby and all of them make me smile. Thanks for the Kingfisher shot. Will follow you on a continuous basis..hard work tramping
Over snow and though the woods.. It makes one reflective and alive.

Thank you again, I prefer smiling these days..ck

  2. LOVE the Kingfisher!! Was reading a book to my little ones and it had a kingfisher in the story. Going to share this on my big screen in the classroom with them. G.

  3. I too revere the wolf for the same reasons you stated above. They are honest even virtuous unto themselves, being who they are. They do inspire in many ways. One amazing lone wolf in particular.

It is hard to see the killing of coyotes, especially those cute pups. Coyotes seem to feel the brunt from both man and beast. They are survivors and have been around in their present form for thousands of years.
Where I live a small family of coyotes came through, a male with very long legs like a wolf but definitely a coyote, a smallish mother and a pup with big ears. They got one of my cats and not for one minute did I think of wanting the coyotes “removed” it was my responsibility- sad though I was.
Glad to see mom and dad Lamar are back and tending to their offspring.
Thanks for sharing. Would be nice to be there.
