Black bear sow and her three cubs of the year!
One of the special treats in Yellowstone this year is the recent discovery of a well-seasoned black bear sow and her three tiny little cubs hanging out near Rainy Lake, just east of Tower Junction on Tower road. The four bears play, eat and sleep in an open meadow and visitors and photographers line the road above to watch and photograph their antics. At times, the bears visit Rainy Lake, just a short distance from the meadow.
The cubs love to climb trees and it is like they have velcro attached to their tiny paws as they climb. And, when one gets into trouble mom is quick to the rescue with licks of reassurance that they can do it without getting hurt. This is one great mom and a wonderful show of nature at its finest.
