Today I went on a 926 quest and though circumstances (flat tire) kept me from actually seeing her, we did discover that she was alone.

First thing I headed out to Lamar and sat right here looking up into the den area, hoping to see 926.  And at one point I turned to look behind me and this bull was staring at me!

After waiting some time I decided to go see what else was going on.  I did find the new osprey nest on the Lamar River but because it is on the road side rangers closed it down.  There will not be much watching the osprey this year.  I am just hoping that this tree holds up – it doesn’t look much better than the last one.

I was driving west when Rick said that he had wolves at Hell Roaring.  So, I stopped to look and there was Twin, 965, Mottled, a collared grey and another grey, heading west.  Seeing Twin back with the pack upset me greatly and all I could do was pack up and leave.

But, I returned later, only to have a flat tire and be on my way to Cooke City (because I had been on my way to Lamar to watch for 926) when she came out of the den area for a brief time.  I missed her but was told she did not look well.

And, so after the tire repair I sat and waited but she did not reappear.

I did see Scarface this evening and he was grazing in a small triangular meadow with the last bit of the day’s light on him.  I will never forget how beautiful that looked to my eye – so beautiful I did not take a photo.

That was it for my day.

Bill said that there was a sow and yearling on Specimen and another man said he saw 3 grizzlies in Lamar this afternoon.

There was also a report of a black bear sow and two coy at Hell Roaring.

Josh found a mountain goat at Golden Gate.  I am hoping she is going to have a kid!  And, he also found a heron and a beaver down south – said he had a great time.

Here is Judy’s report – she saw bears!

We spent most of our day on the west side looking for bears.  We never saw Mini-Mom and her cub.  The Beryl Springs bear was out this morning. She and her cub came down to the Gibbon to get a drink in a very heavy, very short snow storm so no photos.  She came down again this evening. Also this evening there was a grizzly with one coy far out at Obsidian Cliffs.

Bernie had a great big surprise down in the Tetons (though I told him this would happen)  Bear 610 and two coy!

  1. Thanks for your report. Love the bison portrait! The bad news about 926 is hard to digest. Just not fair to our human standards, but I realize I have no clue about the workings of wild wolf world.
