The Tiny Valley Queen

She is tiny but she is mighty!

Yesterday was kind of a bust on the photography and sighting end of things, for myself and many others. Although, I did hear that one fellow photographer got some great shots of 755 down south.

But, I just got tickled listening to Rick recount the story of 926 and the bison calf in Lamar Valley. Our little valley girl has those guys whipped into shape and they know who is queen! Apparently, once the wolves were able to get to the carcass, after the bison funeral left, 926 took it for herself and made the guys, three big guys, wait for the dregs. Those calves don’t provide much food, especially for 4 wolves. But, as you can see by this photo, taken a couple of days ago, she is very thin.

Other than that 890 and 907 nearly went into the bison carcass at Slough but not quite. No action on the carcass all day. No Blaze yesterday either. I saw one grizzly, far out in Hayden and that was it for the day. The black bears continue to put on a show and draw a crowd. The recent video of Rosie on the bridge brought a lot of people to the park just to see her.

Have a great day.

  1. She is one tenacious little wolf, isn’t she. I am anxiously waiting to see how many pups this little girl has this year. Thank you so much, Deby, for keeping us updated on the Lamars and all that goes on in Yellowstone.
