Just a quick update to let you know that I did not go into the park today and so have little to no news.
Rick did say that the wolf project crew was not able to get to the other side of the river to check on the status of 970 today, and so still don’t know if she dropped her collar or is dead.
Another rumor going around that the sow and cubs made it across the river but no confirmation.
The wolf pictured above is 821F, the alpha female of the Prospect Peak pack and really not looking so good. She is very thin for a normally chubby wolf. But, then, she would have just had pups in the last few weeks and feeding those babies can take it out of a wolf. Plus, she is not all that young. This pack is not followed all that much so we rarely know what is going on with them. 821’s pups would be old enough now for her to leave them alone while she wanders around, plus, she has babysitters.
Thank you to Liz Hadfield who captured 821F on her cell phone last Friday. What a great sighting that must have been.
