Blaze is a female grizzly bear that spends much of her time in the area around Fishing Bridge. She has had some very well known babies over the years including Raspberry, White Claw, Circus Bear and Hobo. Hobo was born in 2011, a year with a lot of snow. It was a great year for seeing bears, because there was so much snow the bears stayed low and were easier to find that spring. But we were really unlucky at finding Blaze and Hobo. We only saw them twice that spring and neither were close sightings.

She moved around rather slowly in the snow, taking her time to sniff out any hint of something to eat. She dug in several areas and therefore had snow on her nose for a while and wet paws.
She is not nearly full grown yet, but she is healthy looking and seems to be doing well. All grizzly bears lead a tough life, but I particularly worry about the ones that hang around roads. Hopefully she has learned and will live a long and healthy life.

I have only seen Blaze and Hobo a few times. They are always present for some folks and for others not so much. Sure hope that Hobo is doing well – don’t think that there were any sightings after the spring.
Margie, I looked at your photos. They have to be Blaze and Hobo. Looks just like them and their postures are just like them. You were really lucky to have them to yourself. That has only happened to me a few times, with other bears and several wolves and they are some of the most special times in my life. That was a great spring wasn’t it?!
Yes a great year not that I have that much to compare to. First time ever there was 2009 and that was awesome as we saw just about everything. 2011 was the snow year so yes bears everywhere which was cool but a little scary for hiking. And then this year which was probably more normal. We had to search a little bit to see things but still saw a lot. I’ve only come in June all 3 times because of researching best wildlife times and everyone said June. I’m addicted to that place and hope to return again soon maybe next year, we’ll see. This site doesn’t hope with my addiction!!!
I think you are writing your latest stories just for me….love it. I was actually there in June 2011 and YES bears were everywhere. Because of you and Deby I’m learning names which just adds to my addiction to that place. Anyway, I like going out early and one morning we had an encounter with a mom and baby. Now I believe I know their names….Blaze and Hobo! Hobo was so curious about us and we were the only ones there. Seeing bears is special but being the only ones there is a whole other level of special. Mom (Blaze) made the little one keep moving but boy that 5 minutes with them were so special. Not good for photos as it was in the wooded area of Fishing Bridge and before 7 in the morning but I believe it’s the one you talked about. We saw them one more time later in the week off in a field but the up close encounter was all kinds of awesome! Here are a few photos if interested: https://www.flickr.com/photos/margiek/6232637374
