I did not take a single photo today! Never picked the camera up one time. That is the way it goes on some days.
Went in this morning and did see Spit and BG on the hill but Spit was looking agitated and could not seem to quit looking at the crowd of folks. I heard that the pups had quite a howl from deep in the forest before I arrived. With mama looking so unhappy I decided it was best for me if I went on down the road. Some folks noticed Spit’s agitation while others said no way did it have anything to do with the crowd. I would probably say that if them also but also think that they believe what they say. Spitfire is a different wolf – she has already proven that – but whatever happened to her last fall must have been terrible because she has lost all trust in humans. I would not be surprised if she found a rendezvous area where no one can see them. Hope that is not the case but it would not surprise me.
So, I went on to Slough and saw the Junction Butte’s. There were a whole lot of people waiting for someone to show them wolves and so I set up my scope, found them and then lined everyone up to look. Did not see much myself but that was okay.
Then I went back to the trailer to move back to Gardiner. But, when I arrived they told me that I could stay. Other than the lack of internet I have been in absolute heaven with the scenery, the quiet, the cool air, the sound of the river, the tall trees, the morning commute with little or no traffic and views of the alpenglow on the Absaroka. Yes, I have just been loving everything else about this camping lifestyle. And, being closer to Lamar means that I get more hours of sleep a day and can even go back to the trailer for a nap.
So, yeah, the trailer is still at the campsite. I spent the afternoon cleaning and organizing, which just felt so darned good. My lifestyle is so busy and hectic, with few hours to spare that it felt nice to do something good for myself, even if it was just cleaning house. This campsite has electric, which is an absolute blessing because there are no generators roaring, but no water and sewer. So, I have to get innovative about dealing with those issues but it really is not much of a problem. Give me electricity and I am happy! Hot water would be nice but I checked and the tank is still cracked. Darn.
I even explored down at the creek, looking for a good photo angle and found moose droppings and tracks. I want to see that guy! The creek is absolutely beautiful and clear and it runs right past my trailer.
Well, the truth is, I could set up house in the ghetto and be happy, as long as I don’t have to move. But, I am still trying to figure out the right vehicle/trailer combo for some more traveling. I figure another year to 18 months here full-time before I begin to explore some other areas with Yellowstone as my home base.
Went back out to the park this evening and was setting up on a carcass, hoping for action but think that I had a long nap instead. When I drove into Gardiner the sky was rose red and I could see that it was raining. Quite a stunning sight, really, but I just enjoyed the view.
So, I am going to spend a couple of nights at home now. First time in more than two months. Needed internet, my good computer and photo files for filling some requests. And, I have bills to pay. Am planning on a few hours in the park tomorrow but that is for a specific reason and then will return to Gardiner to work. Let’s hope that it is cool tomorrow. Please! Last time I was here for the afternoon it got terribly hot.
I am dreaming of winter in Yellowstone.
I’m glad to hear you didn’t have to move from your campsite, Deby. It sounds wonderful. That’s such a nice photo of the buffalo and the snowy mountains. It makes me cooler just looking at it.
Take care of yourself.
