My camping season got off to a rough start this year, with clogged pipes at home forcing me to a campground before things were ready, and then a landlord arriving early and waiting for me to leave! And, so, with Yellowstone breathtakingly busy and nearly impossible for finding campsites and such, I have been running back and forth to the Tetons. Which is where Snowy was killed by a car and life became emotionally exhausting. We just never know what is going to happen next.
So, my determination to stay out of Yellowstone, due to the crowds, and spend some time in the Tetons, was also derailed when there wasn’t much going on. The wildflowers that looked so promising early on all faded to dust. Which, I might say, has happened to Pilgrim Creek road – it is a dusty raceway and visitors zooming down, not looking for the bear but for the photographers who might be seeing the bear, and racing back out.
I did find some wonder bird nests and had a little fun at Schwabachers, both of which could keep me busy for a while, but Yellowstone decided to call with promises of good action.
The marmots were on Pilgrim Creek Road and the birds on Moose-Wilson Road. I wanted a moose cow and calf but couldn’t get lucky.
And, so I would have been content to stay in the Tetons, watching birds and continuing my search for moose – moose calves, that is. There were plenty of moose. But, I learned of a close carcass in Hayden Valley and ever hopeful for some wolves, I headed that way. So far no wolves but we have had some great bears.
Only the diehard of photographers are left in Yellowstone now and most everyone of them is here at the bison carcass this morning. They are all friends and so it is a social gathering for many. Me, I am cold from camping and very tired, and so resting in my car, waiting for those darned wolves.
Maybe today!
