Been busy out looking for bears the past two days and haven’t had much luck for myself but do hear that three sets of triplets are being seen in different areas of the park – way off in the distance for the most part, I believe. Just can not wait to see some new little grizzly cubs – always a treat every year.
The truth is, it has been kind of quiet lately and I have not found very many photo ops, except for the bison babies. And, we can never get enough of those! The best place to find the new bison calves is Little America and Lamar Valley where you will find plenty. Just remember to get off the road and keep your distance.
There was a large black bear down towards Obsidian Cliff area, somewhat south of there.
A trumpeter swan was in Floating Island lake and I noticed a number of teals on Swan Lake Flat.
The Mollies chased some elk down to the river this morning but some said they were too close to the people and so went back.
My big treat of the day was seeing 926 one more time before she dens. Her belly is huge now and she is due – probably tomorrow or the next day. There is a slight chance that T is pregnant as she is a little filled out, but I think it is very slight. I got to watch the two of them for several hours and did see Dark Black. Twin was supposedly around and I did hear another wolf howling but did not see him. They were going out hunting this afternoon.
The Lamar den area has been closed off and is ready for the new puppies.
Junction Buttes were doing their regular thing. And, someone saw a gray wolf in Canyon today.
Very hit and miss on the sightings. A good portion of the park is closed down to bear management so you might not be able to hike your favorite trails. Not sure when the irregular bear management areas will re-open.
Love love love the bison photos and all the photos…thanks Deby….
