There are 2 bull elk I have really enjoyed watching during the rut, Touchdown, who spends most of his time in Mammoth and Broken Nose, who can usually be found between Gardiner and Mammoth.
Touchdown has had a large group of females for at least 2 weeks. He spends much of his time trying to corral his females. When he isn’t doing that he is either catching his breath or chasing off another male elk. I heard he lost his females to another big bull today. I don’t know if he has mated with all of them and doesn’t care anymore or whether he will try to get them back.
I told you about Broken Nose recently. A couple of days ago he lost all of his females, but now he has them back.
So tonight we have one happy elk, Broken Nose, and one sad one, Touchdown.
